Welcome to a Connected, Flexible Environment that Supports How You Want to Learn, Lead, and Engage.
The MBCS experience is shaped by the people in it. You’ll find a rhythm that balances focused academic work with time to connect—both with your cohort and across Duke.
Courses meet on Wednesdays and Fridays. Mondays are typically reserved for required program activities—career workshops, cohort sessions, guest speakers, and experiential learning. That leaves Tuesdays and Thursdays to focus on project work, team meetings, or rest and reflection.
This structure gives you time to manage responsibilities, collaborate with classmates, and explore what Duke and Durham have to offer.
Getting Involved
MBCS students can join organizations across Fuqua, the Nicholas School, and the wider Duke community. Whether your interests are professional, creative, identity-based, or just for fun, you’ll find ways to plug in—or start something new.
Student-led events range from small group discussions to community outings. Leadership roles within the MBCS program are open each year, and students interested in broader university involvement can participate in Duke’s Graduate and Professional Student Government (GPSG).
Events that Reflect You
Program staff plan events that evolve with each cohort’s interests and needs. Typical events include:
- Skill-building – Time management, data visualization, LinkedIn refreshers
- Team experiences – Ropes courses, charter-building, group challenges
- Service and wellness – Volunteer projects, hiking, tea tastings, puzzle hours
- Exploring Durham and Duke – Baseball games, performing arts, campus landmarks
- Community connection – Game nights, seasonal traditions, informal gatherings
Participation is always optional—and there’s room to suggest or help shape something new.
Support and Resources
You’ll have access to a broad range of Duke resources, including:
- Cultural and identity centers across campus
- Health and counseling services
- Graduate student support for housing, finance, and logistics
- Recreational facilities, fitness classes, and club sports
Communication that Keeps You in the Loop
Before arrival, you’ll receive access to an MBCS program site with practical information about housing, transportation, technology, and support services. During the summer, virtual Q&A sessions offer space to connect with staff and get your questions answered.
Once the program begins, you’ll get weekly updates with important dates, upcoming events, and optional opportunities—from speaker series and workshops to social gatherings and student-led initiatives.
